Pomegranates in Bobbin Lace
By Jean Eke & Sandi Woods
Part 1 - The Persephone Connection
and
Part 2 - The Queen Katherine Connection
What links William Morris, Greek Mythology
and Old Lace?? In their booklets, Pomegranates in Bobbin Lace, self
published by Jean, both Jean and Sandi explore the link - Pomegranates
of course! In part 1 Sandi has produced two beautiful patterns in
Milanese Lace using Pipers Silks. Pomegranate is adapted from William
Morris's wallpaper and fabric design - Pomegranate or Fruit.
The use of Pipers Silk gives colours which
closely match Morris's original designs, and would make a stunning
design, which, when framed, would enhance any wall.... in a prominent
position of course!!
The second design in the Persephone
Collection turns the Pomegranate on it's head! The Very Red Cardinal
complements the Pomegranate beautifully. They have to be seen to be
believed!
In part 2, we find ourselves meeting Queen
Katherine, and further patterns for a crown, a blackbird and examples
taken from Tudor and Bruges Lace really complement the first two
patterns. They have to be seen to be believed!
